The Zimbabwe Football Association has confirmed interest to participate in three regional women’s football tournaments to be organised by the Council for Southern Africa Football Associations (COSAFA) in 2019.
Dates have already been set for the inaugural Under-17 and Under-20 tournaments to be played in Mauritius and South Africa respectively.
The Under-20 girls’ tournament will run concurrently with the senior teams’ tournament in Port Elizabeth from 1 to 11 August while the U17 tourney will be played from 13 to 22 September.
To date, the only competition for junior women’s teams has been the biennial Region V games organised by the Africa Union Sports Council while U17 girls have not played any international games.
COSAFA is among several regional football associations benefiting from the Federation of International Football Associations’ (FIFA) funding meant for football development.
Member associations of FIFA are also mandated to organise competitions for juniors in order to unlock funding for development projects from the world football governing body.
