Federation of International Football Associations (FIFA) President Gianni Infantino has congratulated Castle Lager Premier Soccer League Champions-elect FC Platinum for their latest title win.
“It gives me great pleasure to send my warmest congratulations to FC Platinum for their second consecutive championship title,” reads part of the letter sent to Dr Phillip Chiyangwa.
Infantino acknowledged the human and material investment that collectively led FC Platinum to the club’s historic title defence.
“The title is a result of the determination of everyone involved and my congratulations go to the players, the coach, the administration, the entire technical and medical staff as well as the fans for this great achievement,” Infantino said.
In reference to the immense power that football has towards social cohesion and national development
Infantino signed off by expressing gratitude to the local football community for spreading the positive message of football which has great potential to promote social cohesion.
FC Platinum consolidated their dominance of local football by winning their second title in as many years, with an improved margin compared to the win in 2017.
The race in 2017 was won in the final round of fixtures and the gap between champions and runner up was two points.
With 6 points still to play for, the champions are 9 points clear of Ngezi Platinum in second.
While FC Platinum won the title with 72 points last season, they already have 74 with 6 more points to fight for.
FC Platinum will represent Zimbabwe in this year’s reformatted African Champions League set to commence in November. The new look premier club competition runs from November to June, the calendar used in most European nations.
FC Platinum were eliminated of the 2017 edition by Club Desportivo de Agosto at the preliminary round on a 1-5 aggregate loss.
