MORULENG, SOUTH AFRICA- OVIDY Karuru marked his return to the Warriors fold with a double against Mozambique on Monday and with that a stake for a place in the 2019 Afcon qualifiers.
It might be too early to say, but having been exiled by poor returns from his spells in Belgium and Kaizer Chiefs, the AmaZulu man is not just ready to give up.
As the Warriors cruised to a 4-0 win on Monday, Karuru broke the ice two minutes before the break before a second after the hour mark before further goals from Ocean Mushure and Blessing Majarira completed the rout.
And the ex-Gunners man is pleasantly happy with his performance but chose to give çredit to the entire team.
In his post matçh interview he said: ‘It was great team work. We worked together as a team considering that we trained together for two days before we departed. I am sure we can do better that we did yesterday (Monday).’
On his return to the national team, Karuru says the road has not been an easy one.’It always feels great to play for the national team because everyone’s wish is to play for his country.
‘It has been a rough road for me seeing others going to Afcon but I still believed that one day I will be back,’ Karuru said.
Afcon coach Norman Mapeza is certainly watching and with Karuru having been part of his dream team earlier on, it should be no surprise if he is called upon to do duty again alongside the likes of Khama Billiat, Kuda Mahachi, Knowledge Musona and Marvelous Nakamba.
Turning to the next match against Madagascar, Karuru is of the view that the opening match has given them better focus going foward. ‘It is a great feeling as we face Madagascar, everyone is a captain on the field of play and we all listen to each other,’ the Warriors co – captain concluded.
