Zimbabwe’s title hopes at the 2019 COSAFA Women’s Championship were crushed yesterday when the Mighty Warriors lost 3-1 to South Africa.
The Mighty Warriors conceded in the 18th minute off the head of Bambanani Mbane but Mavis Chirandu restored parity three minutes later.
Having started nervously, the Mighty Warriors settled after Chirandu’s eqaualiser only to concede at the death of the first half from an Amanda Mthandi long range effort.
Busiswe Ndimeni cemented Banyana Banyana’s lead in the 81st minute with headed goal off a free kick from the right wing, identical to their opener.
Zimbabwe will play Botswana in the third and fourth place playoff on 10 August. Botswana lost the other semi-final 0-4 to Zambia.
