Though Ngezi Platinum Stars shot to the top of the Castle Lager premiership table after week 20, it was the Harare giants, Dynamos who might be the greatest beneficiary of Highlanders, FC Platinum and Chicken Inn’s slip-up on a weekend when the top six clubs squared off.
Ngezi downed How Mine 2-1 away from home to shoot to the top of the table while fellow platinum miners, FC Platinum settled for a point at home to red hot Chicken Inn, whose recent form has thrown them into the title race.
Highlanders failed to maintain the momentum which saw them fly past Shabanie, drawing nil all with Harare City at Barbourfields.
Dynamos on the other hand benefited from a classy corner kick by Ocean Mushure which curled all the way into Black Rhinos goal to grab all three points from Chauya Chipembere.
Rhinos have now lost three matches on the trot, a patch which is slowly eclipsing a bright first half of the season enjoyed by the premiership returnees.
For Dynamos, the win thrust them to third on the log with 36 points, four behind Ngezi but the former Champions have two games to play, one against Caps United and a pending 34 minutes versus Chapungu on a 4-0 lead.
Newly promoted Yadah FC compounded Tsholotsho’s misery by forcing them to extend their winless run to 20, drawing 0-0.
Caps United finally managed to arrest a five-match winless run when a Dominic Chungwa strike saw them through to a 1 nil victory over ZPC Kariba. The Champions remain in the red zone with 17 points from 14 matches.
Bulawayo City were the biggest winners of week 20, dispatching a troubled Shabanie 3-0 in Bulawayo.
