Women’s teams safely back home

13 AUGUST 2019

MEDIA STATEMENT

WOMEN’S TEAMS SAFELY BACK HOME
Following successful participation at the just ended COSAFA Women’s Championship in South Africa, the senior and Under-20 women’s teams arrived safely at Robert Mugabe International Airport in the afternoon on 13 August.

As we advised before, the ladies travelled by road from the host city Port Elizabeth to Johannesburg and then flew to Harare.

The contingent of players outbound from Harare have been checked in overnight at the ZIFA Village, while local based players where assisted with transport allowances to their respective areas of residence.

Contrary to social media reports that the delegation’s flight tickets were purchased with the assistance of COSAFA president Phillip Chiyangwa , it is ZIFA which organised the tickets.

It is however important to note that COSAFA helped in funding our teams’ overnight accommodation in Johannesburg. We will reimburse COSAFA all costs incurred in taking care of our team for which we will always be indebted.

ZIFA strives to ensure equal participation by male and female teams and that all teams are well catered for in order to promote optimum performance.

We shall continue to work with all stakeholders to consistently improve conditions of women in sport.
