The Zimbabwe Women Soccer League (ZWSL) has released fixtures for the first half of the 2019 season.
Last season’s Champions and runner-up, Black Rhinos Queens and Harare City Queens clash in the choice pairing of the opening weekend set for 6 April at Dzivarasekwa Stadium.
Newly promoted Ngezi Scorpions’ first taste of elite football begins at Old Baobab stadium against Herentals Queens.
All sixteen ZWSL clubs recently benefitted from a donation by the Zimbabwe Football Association where each elite club received ten match balls.
Women Football Administrator Theresa Maguraushe expressed gratitude to the mother body, saying the good gesture will alleviate a huge challenge that threatens to hinder the growth of women’s football.
“ZIFA’s kind gesture will go a long way in addressing the acute shortage of equipment which continues to dog women’s football.
“All stakeholders are excited by the donation because the majority were struggling to secure standard match balls.
“You can already tell that everyone is encouraged because there is hope for women’s football when the mother body renders such support.
“We are a grateful lot,” Maguraushe said.
Elite women’s football has faced challenges in the past, at some point failing to complete season fixtures, but last season the situation improved.
